The laws governing the formation and operation of lake districts can be found in Chapter 33 of the Wisconsin State Statutes. 

The Bone Lake Management District board  includes five elected commissioners who serve three-year terms, and two appointed commissioners, a Supervisor from Polk County, and the Chair from the Town of Bone Lake or the Town of Georgetown.
